The Soldier's One

Editing an Anzac

Ok, so this isn't my book as such. This is a collection of letters written during WWI by George Martindale, a soldier from Dimboola in Victoria. But because I had the pleasure of editing and commenting on them, giving them context and bringing them into a larger narrative structure, there's a fair amount of my work in the book. While this was really a side project, somewhat hurriedly done, it also gave me a really profound insight into the war and those who fought it. George was no cardboard Anzac of popular memory, but a deep thinker, good fighter, and talented writer. I really hope one day his lost diary turns up.
